Does XHTML5 support XML schema or am I stuck with DTD?

I'm creating a language that translates to XML. Does XHTML5 support XML schema, so I don't need to implement DTD, or am I stuck with DTD? I'd rather not have to implement DTD, if possible, mainly to avoid language complexity.
