I was filling out a NoCaptcha ReCaptcha using my google chrome browser the other day, and I decided to use developer tools to inspect the cookies I was sending and recieving. I saw a cookie for google.com with key "SSID." Could this contain my Wi-Fi SSID? The value was encrypted ("AstYt9nNUD5R9DkRl" in case you are interested), but I am still conceed. I use a VPN, but google could likely figure out my IP address using their Wi-Fi hotspot map (google for this). I think there is an opt-out or automatic opt-out for residential wi-fi, but who knows! maybe they just keep their residential wi-fi map secret for in house use.

At least one other person using a VPN seems to be conceed about google obtaining SSID names through the browser: Hide SSID from google and youtube? Their question was met with an extreme amount of skepticism regarding whether this was even possible. Clearly TCP/IP packets do not contain the SSID name, which is at the link layer, but if google chrome requests the SSID name from your computer after executing client side code from google.com the information would be available to google.

There is a lot of public information about phones and tablets collecting information about nearby wi-fi networks and "uploading it to the mother-ship" to geo-locate https://askleo.com/if-an-ip-address-doesnt-do-it-then-how-does-google-know-my-location/

Is it possible that google is requesting SSIDs through google chrome and/or other browsers to geolocate people?
