I've been looking into and leaing various web technologies, but I keep getting massively overwhelmed by frameworks and endless helpful add-ins and such.
My goals: I want to lea basic web development. Let's say I want to make a simple website that interacts with a server and a database. I also want that server to be the back-end for an Android app for storing the same user information that the front-end website would collect, store, and report. (I'm not asking for Android advice; I have a great textbook with everything I need for that.)
I tried to accomplish this by diving into languages I knew would be useful. I taught myself basic PHP and SQLite using online resources. I'm already familiar with basic HTML and I used to know basic JavaScript like 8 years ago.
As I research further to figure out what I actually need to do to reach my goals, I'm getting way too overwhelmed with frameworks and server software and overheads. I understand that they are very important and useful, but right now I just want to know the basics, and these things are adding a lot of overhead and confusion.
My question: How do I create a simple website with a back-end? I don't want fancy frameworks or server software. I'll look into that once I have the basics figured out, but for now, I want the minimal basics. I want simple HTTP requests asking PHP to access a relational database using PDO. What more do I need to lea? How do I tie HTML+JavaScript to PHP+SQLite in practice? How do I put it on the inteet? I'm willing to pay a bit of money for web hosting to lea this stuff, so that's not a barrier. I'm thirsty for knowledge.
Note that I'm not looking for information on how HTTP requests are handled or how the client-server relationship works in theory (as explained here), but rather the easiest way to create this setup myself.
Thank you for any help you might have!
