what is the encryption algorithm used in ejabberd. What is its equivalent in PHP?

I see that there is some kind of encryption that is done in ejabberd, specifically, in the modules, cyrsasl_digest. I am wondering what is it ? md5() ?

What is the php equivalent of that encryption?
