I have two physical boxes at my desk right now, one with Windows 7 and the other ruing RedHat Enterprise Linux 6.3. I'm now being told I have to retu the old box (with Linux on it) so I'm looking to find a way to preserve the Linux system another way.
I downloaded Oracle VirtualBox 5.0.20 onto the W7 PC and was trying to set up a VM with RHEL6 on it to maintain that system. I generated an ISO file for the installation of that and I can give that file to VB5 when configuring the VM. Installation code runs in the VM and it tries to access the network (via HTTP) to get the rest of the installation data, but that access hangs and then times out.
Ultimately, the Linux VM needs to have a static IP (and the ISO file for the install was created with the appropriate info for the system once built) while the W7 PC runs on the company network using DHCP. I've tried a number of Network config settings in VB5 for the VM (setting Bridged Adapter seemed the most likely correct choice to support a static IP in the VM once up and ruing), but I've not found any setting which allows the bootstrap code ruing in the VM to access the network to fetch the rest of the info needed to install the system in the VM (it has a URL of the image to continue the bootstrap install).
I've been able to use the URL (from a browser in the PC) and fetched the install.img file onto the PC itself, but I don't know of a way to configure the bootstrap code to fetch it from there instead.
Does anyone have any ideas of what may be wrong, and what I can do to get things to work?
