I am in the process of updating the database of a clan website I am designing for someone, and I have two distinct tables I am worried about (there are more tables, but these are the two in question).

Table 1 has the following columns:

id, useame, year, day, month, rank, active, ranklevel, joindate, and clanid

please note that year, day, and month are used for formatting purposes seperate from the joindate.

Table 2 has the following columns:

id, name, members, createDate, command

command being who is in charge of that specific clan (we have a main clan, with subdivisions due to restrictions in place to how many members a clan can have).

I would like to have it where whenever we add / remove a member to / from the roster table (Table 1) with a clanid of 1, it will automatically update the members fields of Table 2 for the clan with that id to reflect how many members are a part of it.

I know I can go with PHP and have it select, insert, and update the information manually each time we add or remove someone, but I am trying to eliminate some coding if possible, by having the database tables do it automatically, if that's even possible (which I can't figure out if it is).

Any recommendations, or pointers on where I can go find out. Google has failed me on this specific question, as it just points me to things I already know, such as updating and joining tables, etc.
