Exception while hitting a URL from android app

I'm getting exception while hitting a url from android app. I have added Inteet permission to the app's manifest.

URL url = new URL("www.example.com?query=abcd");
        HttpURLCoection urlCoection = (HttpURLCoection) url.openCoection();
        urlCoection.coect();
        urlCoection.discoect();
